If you grew up in this area during the 1980's then you should remember the House of Wax. The House of wax was a wax museum located off of I-30 in Grand Prairie and stood where the Palace of Wax currently stands. Back during the 1980's the House of Wax put on an awesome haunted house... It was one of the original haunted houses in the metroplex, with only Reindeer Manor being around longer. After a fire destroyed the old Wax Museum in 1989 they built a new building called the Palace of Wax & Ripley’s Believe it or Not. They had their haunted house for a couple more years until 1999 when new management took over and closed the haunted house down. Well, after 6 years the Nightmare in the Wax Museum is back and what a way to make an entrance!

Scare Factor:9.5 out of 10
The Nightmare in the Wax Museum is one of the most frightening haunted houses that I’ve ever been in. I personally jumped more times in the Nightmare in the Wax Museum then I have in all the haunted houses visited this year combined. This haunted house will even make the strongest and bravest people jump or scream.

Set design / Props / FX: 10 out of 10
The Nightmare in the Wax Museum has some of the best looking props and set designs that I’ve seen in a haunted house. The walls of the haunted house are not wooden walls like in most haunted houses. The walls are actually part of the daily museum attraction sets. Since you are actually going through the wax museum many of the props and areas are permanent and up year round.

Live Actors: 9 out of 10
The actors in the Nightmare in the Wax Museum were some of the better actors that we’ve seen all season. The costumes and make-up are of very high quality. Many of the actors had excellent timing and knew exactly when the opportune time was to make their appearance. We’ve always said that there is a time and place to actors to stop and stand in your face. This haunt knew how to work with this technique really well… They would stop you, but unlike other haunted houses, it was only long enough to steer you in the correct direction. The actors were well animated and were able to portray their parts without resorting to a simple “Boo” or stomp.

Animatronics: N/A
No true animatronics are being used in Nightmare in the Wax Museum… The animatronics that you see are actually operated by a human. This allows for the human to determine when the best time to trigger the prop.

Length: 9 out of 10
It took us about 25-30 minutes to walk through Nightmare in the Wax Museum. This is probably longer then it takes most groups to go through as we like to take our time and take in the surroundings. Your time will vary with how fast you walk or run through the Nightmare in the Wax Museum.

Summary:
One amazing thing about this haunt is the fact that it is torn down nightly for the Palace of Wax’s’ regular operating schedule. Once sundown hits the Palace of Wax is converted back into Nightmare in the Wax Museum. It’s kind of ironic that during the day, the life of Jesus Christ displays in this area, but during the evening the evil spirits are released and turn the Palace of Wax into a Nightmare.

The Wax Museum is back and in great style! This should be one of the haunted houses that everyone should take time to visit. We can’t wait to see what they come up with for 2006.
