Roadkill
Trail of Terror @ Screams
Waxahachie, TX

Review Date: Saturday, Oct 8 @ 11:30pm

Scare Factor: 6 out of 10
There really wasn’t much to be scared of. The actors do a good job of trying to stir fear, but it falls a little short. The lack of lighting makes some actors very difficult to see thus killing off the scare effect that they were going for.

Set design / Props / FX: 7 of 10
The detail that has been put into the Monster Museum is great. The detailed information on the monsters is definitely worth reading if you have the time. Personally I was amazed with the small very unnoticeable swinging bird cages and other items hanging from the ceiling. These were being controlled by what looked like a record player and had a thin piece of string connected to each hanging object. This gave the illusion of a soft breeze blowing through the monster museum. If this kind of detail was in more places around the Trail of Terror then this could have been an awesome haunt. Once you leave the Monster Museum that is really the end of the scenes. The rest is just a walk in the dark…

Live Actors:9 out of 10
From the sisters in the Monster Museum to the 8ft tall Gargoyles, the actors in the Trail of Terror are worth taking special note of. They all played their parts really well, were energetic and were having a fun time doing it. Our favorite had to be Gollum looking creature with his hissing and bouncing around all over. The howls of the wolf sounded very convincing and it was very hard to believe that the actor was doing the howling.

Animatronics:N/A
We noticed no animatronics being used in the Trail of Terror.

Length: 8 out of 10
It took approximately 10 minutes to traverse the Trail of Terror. This is on par with the other haunts at Screams.

Summary:
The Trail of Terror is an excellent haunt, so don't let the score fool you. Since the haunt is located inside Screams, but it's a completely separate haunt we have to score it differently. The actors were very good and played their roles very well. The two sisters that are in the Monster Museum and the ticket counter had us rolling on the floor laughing very hard. The haunt is definitely worth the extra $5.00. However if you are planning on going to Screams just for this haunt then you will be let down. The $24.99 admission price is a bit steep, but you do get admission to Screams as well.
