Roadkill
Hangman's House of Horrors
Fort Worth, TX

Review Date: Friday, Oct 7 @ 10:00pm

Hangman's House of Horror is conveniently located at I-30 and Forest Park in Fort Worth, and partial proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society, a Wish with Wings, the Humane Society of North Texas, Women's Haven of Tarrant County and the Lone Star Film Society. Waiting in line is not too bad since there is live music, rides, concessions, and other novelties to keep you busy. Their main attraction for $16 is great every year, and the additional attractions are worth an extra $4... specifically "Hillbillies of the Corn". Saw Madness is not at all what it could have potentially been, and unfortunatly we completely overlooked The Funhouse and forgot to go through (busy night for us). But "Hillbillies of the Corn" by itself makes the $20 combo ticket worth the extra $4.

Scare Factor: 7.5 out of 10
The main attraction will appeal to many phobias, and the classic scare tactics are still a strong point. Themed toward movies this year, it really depends on what movies scared you most to say which scenes will scare. With a little bit of everything, some of the themes were wildly entertaining but not very scary.

"Hillbillies of the Corn" had us close to tears in laughter, but again, not so scary. It may not be very funny to the younger crowds (teens), but older crowds should pick up on all the very subtle details that should have you laughing too... But if it feels like a second home, you just might be a red neck.

"Saw Madness" didn't scare us at all. But since the combo ticket is worth the main haunt and "Hillbillies of the Corn", I will leave "Saw Madness" for comments from our members.

Set design / Props / FX: 8.5 out of 10
Hangman's changed their theme this year, so there was a little bit of last year's design still in use. However, this did not hurt the overall affect that Hangman's puts into their extreme detail. There were a few things that did not perfectly fit into the theme, but definitly worth keeping around.

"Hillbillies of the Corn" had us floored with their over-the-top attention to detail. Please look around at every piece of every scene. We were told that the actors of "Hillbillies of the Corn" took over some of the detailing task, and their efforts impressed us greatly (maybe enough for a separate 9.5 out of 10 score in set design).

Live Actors: 8 out of 10
Hangman's used to have some of the best actors. This year seemed to fall a little short in the talent department. Don't get me wrong, there were some VERY WONDERFUL actors, but when the unexperienced actors are mixed in with them, it is hard to give a really high score. Overall, Hangman's is always good, and they have never disappointed me. However there was a decline in the talent that I have seen years past. I understand that it is difficult to GET live actors, let alone really good ones. So I am rating this category based on the fact that there were more GREAT actors than there were unexperienced ones.

"Hillbillies of the Corn" has some of the GREAT ones. I like to talk to the actors with speaking roles sometimes to test their improve skills, and they were great at knowing their characters. Once again, "Hillbillies of the Corn" is worth checking out for entertainment value.

Animatronics: N/A
There may have been animatronics, but for the life of me I can't remember seeing any.

Length: 9 out of 10
Main attraction is approx. 30 minutes, plus the additional attractions, the length of your night with Hangman's is worth the $20 combo, and the main attraction is worth the $16 if you are pressed for time.

Summary:

If you are in the Fort Worth area, you only plan on seeing one haunt this year, and you do not want to drive very far to see it (meaning outside of Fort Worth), then Hangman's is your place to go this year.
