Visibility/Location :
The Dungeon of Doom is located inside the Arlington Museum of Art on Main Street in downtown Arlington. The building they are located in is a white 3 story building on the corner of Pecan and W. Main St. Look for the searchlight above the large Dungeon of Doom banner.
Parking :
Parking for the Dungeon of Doom is free and located in well lit locations. Most parking is located along the street, but several city owned parking lots nearby offer lit parking as well.
Atmosphere/Wait Entertainment : 9
During several evenings in October the Dungeon of Doom will close off Main St. and have live music and a dance party. Roaming characters from inside the Dungeon of Doom may venture out into the streets and give chase to un-expecting visitors. We have even seen a character give chase and follow someone through their vehicle… in one door and out the other side. So, if you scare easily you may not be safe anywhere near the Dungeon of Doom… Even inside your own vehicle!
Set Design/Scene Detail/Floor Plan : 9.5
The most wonderful part about Dungeon of Doom is that you cannot find their props in a Halloween store or a haunt magazine. Most of the scene details are personally crafted, painted, built, etc. by the staff. The owners give their actors a great amount of creative freedom, including allowing them to design and modify their rooms and scenes. We saw some wonderful changes throughout as well as a great amount of building on. The entrance into the basement got an entire face-lift, and the surprises just keep on coming after that. If you have seen this haunt in the past, this is definitely the time to go back again and see how much has changed! Three floors of haunt, and almost doubled in length… same price… and as always, there is a great amount of care and detail put into each scene.
However, the expansion did include a few areas that were not quite as detailed as the rest of the haunt, and even a couple of places that appeared “thrown together” at the last minute… but we assume that as time goes on more and more detail will be added here too, because Dungeon of Doom has always put a great amount of effort into creating the right mood and atmosphere through their characters and scene details… can not wait to see how much more they come up with!
Live Actors/Performance/Enthusiasm/Costumes : 10
The best haunt actors in the DFW metroplex found their home with Dungeon of Doom, and since most of these actors return year after year (sometimes for generations) they all have their characters and acts well defined and tuned perfectly to their surroundings. Since Dungeon of Doom does not have any animatronics, the scares are completely driven by the incredibly talented staff and effectively adorned surroundings. And if you ever played the game Silent Hill, you must see the absolutely flawless nurse… the walk is so perfect you will think you just stepped into Silent Hill yourself. The actors in the Dungeon of Doom are by far some of the most enthusiastic haunted house actors that we have come across in the DFW area. They are a lot of fun to sit back and watch as some venture outside of the Dungeon and chase guests to their cars or around the museum grounds. Several of their characters are so dedicated that they NEVER get out of character until they have changed out of their costumes. Just try and make them break character—you can’t. After the haunt closed one night we tried to talk to one of the actors, but we learned quick that the character does not go away until the makeup and costume comes off. That is true dedication.
Crowd Control : N/A
We showed up late in the evening and there was no crowd. Crowd sizes are limited to less then 6 people, but our optimal recommended group size is 4. This way you will not miss anything inside the Dungeon of Doom. Groups are normally spaced out by a couple minutes, but on busy nights spacing may lessen and cause groups to collide into each other. This is the same with any haunted house in the area; get there during the early evening before the crowds start in order to get the best show.
Additional Attractions : N/A
The Dungeon of Doom does have special events on certain nights of October, including street dances with live music. But there are no additional haunted attractions.
Admission Price vs. Length vs. Entertainment Value : 10
Normal price for the Dungeon of Doom is $15.00, but using our internet coupon you can get in for $12.00 per person.
This is the BEST deal in DFW. That is $12 for a full professional production that lasts 15-20 minutes. I don’t think there are any other haunts in DFW that even come close to the quality of Dungeon of Doom for such a great low price!
Overall Experience/Summary :
Dungeon of Doom has always impressed us with their creative designs and talented actors. In years past, some people might have said it was a little short, but they also did not charge as much as other haunts either. Quality, not quantity, right? Well, since Dungeon of Doom maxed out the quality meter, they just HAD to grow bigger and spread into quantity. This year is the best yet, and we hear the Dungeon might even keep getting bigger in the future, too! I can’t wait! This place is a must see.
