Atmosphere

WONDERFUL location. As soon as we arrived, I started commenting on how we were about to see something great. That is exactly the kind of first impression a haunt should have… already excited before you even get to the front door.

And what great music! I caught myself jamming to the music SEVERAL times, and the most amazing part is how the sounds are directed. There are several different sound tracks played through out, and somehow the sound does not travel beyond the scene it is meant for. I am not sure HOW they did it, but the uncovered sets inside the warehouse did not have any sound "bleed through" from scene to scene, and I loved every second of the sound manipulation.

Set Design/Detail/Floor Plan

Three letters… OMG! Nothing is store-bought here, folks. Necroplex acquired the machine shop and realized that the large equipment had not been touched in over 30 years… and almost all of it could not be moved out of the warehouse. So what do you do with an old machine shop with immoveable parts? Build an AWESOME haunted house, of course! It took a great mind from the haunt industry family to recognize the potential of this place, and Necroplex played their surroundings out PERFECTLY and used the natural settings (with a lot of clean up and hard work) to produce a doll creation theme too creepy to accurately describe in words. Necroplex offers a set design that no one in the entire haunt industry could ever duplicate, because there are huge pieces of ancient machinery through the whole haunt – all of which came with the building. Since much of the equipment is permanently fixed to the ground, Necroplex was faced with the difficult task of building a haunt around, through, and sometimes OVER the heavy industrial atmosphere. And everyone knows we are suckers for well-executed themes… Necroplex delivers a very consistent theme, and even takes you through and beyond the home of what the doll maker might have lived in. I know I would not have been comfortable in this haunt alone, even though we were offered the chance to go through by ourselves, but I answered with a big "hell no! I need my co-reviewer to go with me". I was actually scared to go by myself.

Live Actors (Performance/Enthusiasm/Costumes)

GREAT make-up, costumes, and performances. I think the only thing missing from a perfect 10 scary experience is if the actors actually touched you and checked your skin softness to see if it was going to make a great doll. These guys are very dedicated to their act, and the doll theme keeps all staff fully costumed throughout. There are some great blood-curdling screamers, and really effective roaming characters, too. Make sure you pay attention to the doll dancing on her platform… sooooo effectively creepy. You should be highly pleased with your host, too, and his company, Zoe and Bride… Shoot, everyone does a great job, especially the first 'doll' in the first room… red dress, convincing story, and perfectly dim lighting to set the stage for the frights and startles to come. Why not add more scary dolls to the haunt? Maybe add more seamstress ladies to coerce you into leaving before madam finds your pretty, pretty soft skin, or (for the more fit ones) pretty, pretty muscle tone and stature… just keep building on that theme, cause it is a great one!

Admission Price vs. Length (Entertainment Value)

This (aside from certain lighting issues) is probably the biggest reason for a frown. The haunt itself clocks around 17 minutes.. and that is a great deal if it were compared to the ticket price ($15)… but $5.00 parking… pfft… that is $5 more to pay to park on their lot, and even though the owner explain that it was for some insurance premiums they needed to cover, we would like to see the parking fee go "bye-bye". Because, as you might have guessed, there is no alternative free parking. HOWEVER, you can use the [url="http://www.dfwhauntedhouses.com/images/coupons/html/coupon_necroplex08.html"] $2 off coupon, so the complete experience, plus parking fees, falls within the $1 per minute average.

Overall Experience/Summary/Misc. Information

Oddly enough, we almost did not review this place. I thought it was too far, and I really did not want to travel THAT far for a first year haunt. Boy, am I glad we went. Now all I can think is how much greatness I would have missed had we NOT gone out there. I know it is a long drive, but OMG it is so good… well, you just HAVE TO check this place out to see for yoruself! Seriously creepy, seriously unique, and seriously a great experience. I am so glad we went, if anything so that we could tell all you guys how cool it was. Sure, everyone has room to grow and improve, but that is the only reason why Necroplex does not get a perfect 10. It is hard to pull off something perfect without any down sides and without ANY room for expansion. The best part is, Necroplex has BIG plans for the future, so we can bet on the fact that they will not just be happy with their high ratings from us, but still keep building and improving – and they will probably have another amazing show for us next year. I know this one will be permanently on our review schedule for as many years as they are running, and I don't care how far away they are.
